I am an extroverted relational verbal processor. When it came time for me to write a blog on silence and solitude, the first thing I have to admit is that I don’t do it very well. Often times, I get distracted by text messaging, phone calls, and the opportunity for coffee dates.
That being said, it’s one of my most critical practices and my disciplines with the Lord. There’s something really special about sitting in silence and focusing on my relationship with Him.
Having margins and the ability to practice these disciplines have opened up relational intimacy with God that I could’ve never imagined. It’s given me perspective and the capability to hear His voice in a different way.
For me, having a space of solitude and silence is important. I like to use my back porch. It’s a sacred space for me, and I can feel God‘s presence there. If I’m struggling with solitude or silence, I also know walking is a huge gift. The ability to move my body silences my mind.
More than anything, practicing silence and solitude is just something that I want to get better at so that I can move closer to Him. Let me challenge you this week… Create rhythm that includes silence and solitude. In the intimacy, you can find a closer relationship with Jesus.
