Praying the Bible

As a staff team we lay out the weeks of the blog, and sort of break them down to cover the content in the best way possible.

When I saw the term, “praying the Bible” I knew I needed to write about it.

Praying the Bible has changed my relationship with God. It has forced me to say the words on the pages so many times. It has given me permission to consume God’s Word without reading for understanding or outcomes. And while I’m sure there are lots of really good resources on practices or formulas to pray the Bible, my approach has always been simple –

I just repeat the words on the page as many times as it takes to believe that they were written for me.

I can tell you, in the tough seasons of my life, THIS practice carried me through. Early mornings, late nights – simply repeating the Word of God out loud, internally, and everything in between has carried me through.

In on particularly chaotic season I probably prayed/repeated/almost yelled the words of Psalm 46:10 a thousand times – because it took me that long to believe they were for me.

We all come to this community in different places, with different experiences. What I know for sure is this:

You will have tough seasons, and praying God’s Word will never return void.

Repeat the words as many times as it takes for you to believe they were written for you – it just might change everything.
